Ephesians 2: 8-9 says “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast.” Amazing stuff this thing called Grace. There is even a song about it!
Starting on July 17th we will begin exploring this thing called grace - what it means in a Wesleyan context, how we can get to know it and understand it, and its impact on our lives. In Wesleyan understanding, we have one grace understood in three different ways: Prevenient (Preventing), Justifying (Assurance) and Sanctifying (Perfecting). We will also explore those wonderful “Means of Grace”.
How do we experience, understand and receive this awesome gift from God? The UMC has a motto so to speak. It is grace, upon grace, upon grace.
So, as we enter into this summer season, I challenge you all to be in wonderment about the grace that God has given to each of you. May it lead you, give you comfort, and cause you to reflect on how blessed you truly are - blessed enough that you want to share God’s grace with others.
Make sure you come and support Jackie and her merry band of volunteers during Vacation Bible School July 11-15th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. I will be with you in spirit as you learn and enjoy the experience of this beach filled program. Bonnie and I will be living that experience with you in “real” time much further south from here!
One last note. Please remember to come to church and worship our Lord and Savior even when I am not there. Your lay servants are gifted preachers who have been called to share the Word of God with you and you have to keep getting closer to God! Our church needs your prayers, presence, gifts and service! Thanks for all you do to in glorifying God and in serving your church. May God pour out His grace and abundant blessings upon each of you.
